Dresses as Journals
Artist Statement
I love working in this format as an artist and story teller blending visual art and writing. Some of my images and stories are personal some are universal on the iconic girls childhood dress.The childhood dress for me is an important symbol, we were told this made us girls. This is what was the norm and accepted in school and church even in the cold northern New York winters.
My first Journal dress was created in the 1990's and won honorable mention in several galleries in New York and Chicago on tour. I started to create the dresses once again in 2010 and took a long break from them. Then in 2020 I created many of them. The last few years I have continued to design the dresses with a great deal of information, stories, images, drawings and more. In 2025-2026 I will continue to build
the dresses and exhibit them.
